Chinese Roulette

Chinese Roulette

Chinese Roulette—also called Ruleta China—is a table game developed by 1X2 Gaming. Released in October 2016, Chinese Roulette is modeled on the European roulette and is a slight variant of the developer’s March 2016 game Astro Roulette. European Roulette (2017) and Diamond Roulette (2018) are other roulette versions from 1X2 Gaming.

The part title “Chinese” is a reference to its Far East symbolism; the game’s thematic elements are meteorological seasons, Chinese astrology and zodiacal animals, Asian mythology, mindsets, and classical elements.

Chinese Roulette Game Characteristics

On loading, the Chinese Roulette presents its players with a roulette table below a roulette wheel. The roulette table has these features. The “0” pocket has been replaced with a purple-and-yellow infinity symbol.

The roulette table has seven rows whose symbols, from left to right, are as follows. The topmost row has these zodiacal animals: yellow tiger, green snake, red monkey, and blue pig. The second row has these symbols: blue rabbit, yellow horse, green rooster, and red rat. Third row: red dragon, blue goat, yellow dog, and green ox.

The second last row has these blue meteorological seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter. The last row: on the left, there are two classical elements—red fire and green earth; there are two mindsets—positive and negative—in the middle; and, on the right, two other classical elements, namely yellow air and green water.

The black-and-maroon roulette wheel has:  a black-and-red outer ring for the zodiacal animals and their corresponding symbols; a shiny and serrated second ring; and a blue core.

Located below the self-adjusting odds display for the selected bet, the eight Chinese Roulette casino tokens are: $1.00, $5.00, $10.00, $25.00, $50.00, $100.00, $250.00, and $500.00. The total stake counter is at center left, while the blue “clear single” and “clear all bets” icons are below the tokens. Minimum bet: $0.50. Maximum bet: $1000.00. The green “spin” icon is at bottom right.

Players can bet on: Straight up (any of the twelve zodiacal animals), split, corner, Infinity, row, season, element, and positive or negative.

The various bet options yield these payouts. Straight up pays 11:1, split pays 5:1. Infinity pays 4:1. Season (or column) pays 3:1. Corner, or row pays 2:1. Element pays 1:1. And positive or negative pays 1:1. Based on the highest 11:1 odd and the $1000.00 maximum bet, Chinese Roulette’s maximum payout: $10000.00.

Unfortunately, the Chinese Roulette software is a turn off. It may be impossible to play the game anywhere on the Internet as it needs the unsupported Flash Player. The game has animated 3D graphics, including the spinning virtual roulette wheel and glowing winning symbols. The hamburger menu icon at bottom right allows players to turn on/off sound and to choose between low quality and high quality display.

Theme music: oriental instrumental. Studio sounds: people talking inaudibly in the background. Sound effects: chinking while selecting the tokens and placing bets, ringing during winning rounds, and rattling roulette ball. A female prompter reads the winning zodiacal animal.
